Description
Pinaceae family, native to the Atlas Mountains of Algeria and Morocco. Medium to large size evergreen tree, around 100 ft. tall, with a trunk diameter of 3 to 6 ft.
It is very similar in all characteristics to other varieties of cedar of Lebanon.
The top has pyramidal shape with horizontally spreading branches; the bark is grayish brown with dense cracks.
The bright green leaves are rigid and purplish cones are shaped like flattened apex. The essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the wood.
